Wallace Ironorm Capsules: iron and vitamin deficiency medicine

Ironorm Capsules are a medicine for iron and vitamin deficiency states. The patient leaflet lists these ingredients in each capsule: dried ferrous sulphate 195 mg, folic acid 1.7 mg, thiamine (vitamin B1) 1 mg, riboflavin (vitamin B2) 2 mg, vitamin C 15 mg and nicotinamide 10 mg. Vitamin C is ascorbic acid. Ironorm is a capsule medicine, not a general pregnancy supplement; ask a doctor or pharmacist whether it is appropriate for you.

How to take Ironorm Capsules

The product leaflet states one capsule by mouth with meals three times a day and says not to exceed the stated dose. Follow the instructions supplied with your current pack and your healthcare professional’s advice. Do not take a double dose if you miss one. Store in a cool, dry place and do not use after the expiry date.

Interactions and precautions

Do not take Ironorm if you are allergic to any ingredient. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, or if you take other medicines. The leaflet lists tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, penicillamine, antacids and cholestyramine as medicines that may interact with iron. Tea, eggs and milk may also reduce iron absorption; ask a healthcare professional how to time Ironorm with these foods or medicines.

Oral iron can darken stools and may mask signs of bleeding in the gut. Other possible effects listed in the leaflet include appetite loss, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, constipation, diarrhoea, dark stools, rash or itching. Seek medical advice if effects are severe or continue. Iron overdose is an emergency, especially in children: seek urgent medical care if too many capsules are taken.
