A counterfeit skincare product is not just an unofficial discount. It is a product pretending to be something it is not, without the quality controls, traceability and accountability of the genuine manufacturer and authorised supply chain.
The biggest problem is uncertainty: you may not know whether the listed ingredients are accurate, whether the product was produced hygienically, whether preservatives are adequate or whether it has been stored correctly.
Why counterfeit cosmetics can be unsafe
Cosmetics sit directly on the skin, lips, eyes or scalp. Substandard manufacturing can create risks from contamination, undeclared ingredients, incorrect concentrations or poor preservation. EUIPO and OECD reporting on counterfeit trade specifically notes that counterfeit cosmetics can pose health risks to consumers.
Separately, the EU Safety Gate system regularly records alerts for dangerous cosmetic products. Not every unsafe cosmetic is counterfeit, and not every counterfeit will cause an immediate reaction—but an uncontrolled product removes many of the safeguards consumers normally rely on.
A perfect-looking box does not prove authenticity
Modern counterfeits can reproduce logos, colours, barcodes and packaging with surprising accuracy. Small spelling errors and poor print quality are warning signs, but their absence does not guarantee the product is genuine.
Price can be a clue—but not proof
A price dramatically below the normal market range deserves scrutiny, especially for products that are rarely heavily discounted. However, genuine clearance stock exists, and counterfeiters can also charge near-retail prices to appear credible. Price should be considered together with the seller, supply chain and product details.
Check the seller and traceability
- Buy from established pharmacies, authorised retailers or reputable sellers with clear business details.
- Look for intact packaging, batch information and expiry or PAO information where applicable.
- Be cautious with marketplace listings that use generic stock images and provide no traceable seller information.
- If the texture, smell, colour or packaging differs significantly from the same product you have previously used, stop and verify it.
What if a product causes a reaction?
Stop using it. For mild irritation, rinse gently and simplify the routine. Seek medical care for significant swelling, blistering, eye involvement, breathing difficulty or a severe rash. Keep the packaging and seller information in case a complaint or safety report is needed.
Authenticity is part of product quality
At GoldFarmaci, “100% Original” should mean more than a badge: products are sourced through legitimate supply channels and should be traceable. The value is not only the brand name on the bottle—it is confidence in what is actually inside it.

If you suspect a cosmetic product is counterfeit, do not keep using it simply because no reaction appeared after the first application.
